Casco Bay
Gulf of Maine
sunrise brought a welcome from my friends in and around the Cape Of Good Hope
I was greeted by 7 Southern Right whales. They were rolling and playhing in the still morning that was free of mist and long on peace
I did the right thing this time and slowed her down and spent some time with these creatures today
I want to leave this voyage with a quote for you from
Bruce Chatwin and his book 'In Patagonia". I hope he does not mind me sharing
It is so right on for me in my life as a sailor man
"We were close to the Horn, running with all plain sail set to a spanking breeze on the starboard quarter. It was a
Sunday morning. I was walking up and down the main hatch with chips the Carpenter and he said: 'The girls at home are pulling with both hands.'
It's an old sailor's idea that every ship has a rope with one end made fast at her bows and the other held by the loved ones at home. and when the ship has a fair wind sailors say the girls are pulling hard on the rope. But when the wind is foul, some say there's a knot or a kink in th erope, which won't go through the block; and others say the grils are sparking round with the soldier chaos and have foregotten their sailor laddies."
My little family has been pulling hard at every port. so nice for me
And Banana Bob has a suprise waiting for him at the dock too.
the circle is connected. Portland to Portland around the globe

we are in the Great South Channel between Nantucket Shoals and the Georges Bank. Plenty of history here. New Bedfors not far away. How the real sailorman navigated through here is amazing to me. Makes me real small stuff in comparison.
This is a shipping channel with traffic separation. North and south Bound lanes with a no fly zone in the middle.
The wiind is moderate and exaclty on the nose. The seas are flat and upwind we go.
Morning was harsh. woke up to a fog horn.
I was directly center puch in the middle of the traffic circle . One way to Boston the other to New York.
Asleep at the wheel.
Radar on in the fog.
Big ship not to close but close enough. I slowd a bit and she passed and that was nice.
visiblility improved throughout the morning and the dolpins came to visit first.
Then some sharks and then a fishing boat very close. They came for a look for sure.
Traffic thinned as the moring turned to noon and the sun is out and it is peachy. Sweet as.
We are short tacking up the channel waiting for a forecasted SW breeze that woujld be real cool to have.
Water is cold. I have clothes and boots and it is actually quite nice the cool fresh air.
Ocean color is green and plenty of yellow pollen floating.
There are red buoys that have fish pots under them. Thes will increase. The Gulf of Maine has an abundance. I forgot about them.
It is not unlike eskiing in the trees. Just look at the space in between not the trees.
Portland is 150 miles distant which puts us in sooner than later.

slipped thru the bumpy Gulf Stream and entered a warm eddy. I passed out and woke up drifted East too far.
Gybed and got the kite up. Full main and the kite in light air that is hot with apiercing sunshine. Cant go barefoot on the deck.
Running a course of 287. Number of my favorite highway in Colorado. double scoop of ice cream in Buena Vista with Walt nd the gang along the arkansas river
Sorry for being such a rmembering fool living on the old times/ But it is what is happening/
Dried out the boat from the damp Bermuda. Got some National flower aboard. The mold flower. But she is smelling sweet again.
Good mileage considering how light the breeze has been.
forecast weather for a front tonite and another the next day and continued North flow barring our passage into the Gulf of Maine.
If it comes true then we will be short tacking up the Great South Channel between the Nantucket Shoals and the Georges Bank rounding the Cape Cod and into the Gulf of Maine. There will be traffic for sure without a doubt. The channel is the shipping lane for Boston Harbour.
Resting up . Trying to at least. Auto is having trouble driving to true wind with the shifts and lulls so i am button pushing as the wind is clockiong from SE to S to SW to W and then to North. Full circle in 24 hours.
Life is good. Made popcorn. Been awhile for that

I am in a "Wam Eddy" next to the gulf Stream. The current in the eddy is coming from the SW so it is fair instead of foul. It is slow moving not the fast eddy I dreamt of last night.
The sea state is one of cunfusion with snappy jerky movements. Banana Bob my crewman is doing suprisingly well. Not too many humans are cut for this program.
The Stream is close and I am waiting patiently watching the sea temp and the course over ground compared to the boats heading.
My friends are on the rivers in the West doing the same I am sure of it.
I have lost my tolerance for the heat as it is dripping wet inside the cabin and un bearable on deck.
The other side of the stream will be fresh but I am confused about it as well. Gone is the blue blue windows. gone is the tangled up in blue swells. gone is the sparkling diamonds of phosphoressence.
400 mile to go the Portland. There is some di9scussion of another cold front going to block our way. We will see about it. For now it is bouncing around in and about the majestic Gulf Stream.
Wind are light 10-15kts and forward of the beam my course is 345 and they are WSW. I have tghe J1 and 1 reef and some water. Could use the full main but the leech woujld go nuts with the motion. so we have l slwowed down from the speeds of last night. It was good and fast.

Anasazi Girl depaerted St Geroges Bermuda bound for Portland Maine 24 hours ago
On board with me is Mr Bob. alias Banana Bob. No need ofr trying to catch fish is the inside joke
Forecast for huge high pressure sustem seemed just right foer th eone wind Girl to0 cross the gulf stream and slide across to Gulf of Maine back to the barn of Brian Harris and company where the dream started
We have been mnotoring for 20 hours in super light conditions to a waypoint of the corner of a cold eddy
The current in the eddy will push us North and into the Stream
Gulf Steam greatest river in the sea
I was talking with Bryn at commanders this morning and she was saying we would be lucky to get 15 kts later this evening.
Not exactly like the set up to the Drake Passage when she told me of a forecast of 60 kts and followed with we will get through this
super mellow on board. I am usually real uptight wioth someone aboard but Bob is just the man.
The wind is just starting to go West and the moment we turn of the diesel will be cool with both of us. But we arent whining. I know fair wind is coming and some nice sailing and Bob is open for it all.
Emotions are starting to come as the the real finish line to the dream approaches.
More than this trip . the little sailing trip is the new life with the little girl due on July 9 that is exciting.
